Project Insights

Gorillas is a German on-demand grocery delivery company, known for its promise to deliver groceries within minutes via a network of dark stores. As one of the fastest-growing European startups between 2020 and 2022, Gorillas rapidly scaled across major cities.

During my time there, I worked as a Senior Brand Designer, contributing to the development and evolution of the company’s visual identity.

The opportunity

We opted for a punchy, high-contrast theme as the foundation of Gorillas’ core identity—designed to convey an expressive, energetic, and empowering brand presence. Inspired by the underground music scene of the ’90s, the visual language pays homage to raw, analog aesthetics and a spirit of bold rebellion.

Our aim was to create a brand world that feels immediate and alive—like a spontaneous snapshot of real life. Through emotional storytelling and unapologetically honest visuals, we highlighted the brand’s authentic and cheeky personality.

Central to the identity are the custom Gorillas Sans and Gorillas Sans Display typefaces. These bespoke fonts blend the robust character of 19th-century American Gothics with the clarity of 20th-century European Grotesks, striking a confident balance between tradition and modernity.
